A superb wristwatch which brings together the distinguished styling and uncompromising standards of classical haute horlogerie which are synonymous with one of the pioneering marques of contemporary independent watchmaking, the new Tonda PF Chronograph by Parmigiani Fleurier is a showcase of sophistication and complexity, in an all new design which integrates case and bracelet as one.
Renowned for its timeless designs and exquisite craftsmanship, Parmigiani Fleurier was established in the Jura town of Fleurier in the mid 1990s, since when the independent watch company has earned a reputation among connoisseur collectors as one whose timepieces are a reflection of individuality and refined tastes, and with the introduction of the new integrated case and bracelet and PF motif, the Tonda PF Chronograph is a continuity of that prestigious pedigree.
Manufactured in stainless steel, the case of the Tonda PF Chronograph measures 42mm across and 12.4mm in height, and boasts a water resistance rating of 100m. With alternating finishes of satin brushed and finely polished surfaces, the signature fluted bezel in 950 platinum, and curvaceous teardrop-shaped chrono pushers, it is a watch with a visually striking presence on the wrist.
Beneath the sapphire glass, the Milano Blue dial is decorated with Grain d’Orge guilloché, which complements beautifully the faceted steel indices and skeletonized Delta style hands. Three subdials at the display the thirty minute and twelve hour chrono counters at the three and nine, while the small constant seconds are displayed at the six, with a squared date window adjacent at the four o’clock position. Around the periphery of the dial, fine white markings show the seconds and one-fifth second increments.
Inside the watch, and visible through the sapphire exhibition caseback, the magnificent self winding Calibre PF070 is a fully integrated chronograph movement which, as with all Parmigiani Fleurier pieces, has been entirely manufactured in house and meticulously hand finished. Beating at a rapid 36,000 vib/h (5hz), it is also officially certified to C.O.S.C. chronometer accuracy, and boasts a power reserve of at least sixty-five hours. At the centre of the skeletonized 22ct oscillating weight, the PF motif itself appears to float, as it is suspended in a tiny panel of sapphire crystal, allowing a view of the intricate mechanism behind.
An outstanding wristwatch of exceptional quality and attention to detail throughout, from an independent marque which combines the traditional values of hand produced Swiss watchmaking with state of the art technical innovation, the Parmigiani Fleurier PF Tonda Chronograph is a rare and eye-catching piece which epitomises an individuality in taste, and an appreciation of fine haute horlogerie.
