The Oscillon Fundamentum Silver Blue ALD Dial is a fully hand-made independent Swiss timepiece produced using centuries-old watchmaking methods. Crafted entirely within the Oscillon atelier using antique machinery, the Fundamentum pairs exceptional traditional finishing with a striking hand-decorated blue ALD-coated tapisserie dial.
Entirely produced within Oscillon’s atelier in Buchs, Switzerland, the Fundamentum is a rare modern expression of historical watchmaking executed without industrial shortcuts. Every component of the watch, from the stainless steel case to the movement itself, is manufactured using hand-operated antique machinery rather than CNC production or automated processes.
Founded by Dominique Buser and Cyrano Devanthey, Oscillon was born from a shared ambition to revive traditional methods of watchmaking that have largely disappeared from contemporary horology. After years restoring antique lathes, pantographs and cutting tools, the pair developed the Fundamentum as a pure demonstration of atelier-level craftsmanship and mechanical honesty.
The watch is housed within a 38mm stainless steel case measuring just 10mm thick, delivering elegant classical proportions while maintaining significant visual presence. The silver dial is finished with a deep blue ALD coating and decorated by hand with Oscillon’s signature tapisserie motif using antique brocading machinery. The result is a dial with exceptional texture, depth and light play, contrasting beautifully against the polished chapter ring and recessed small seconds display.
Rhodium-coated mirror-polished hands and indices further reinforce the restrained yet highly detailed aesthetic of the watch.
Powering the Fundamentum is an in-house manual winding calibre operating at a traditional 18,800 vibrations per hour. Viewed through the sapphire caseback, the movement reveals immaculate hand-finishing throughout, including Geneva stripes across ruthenium-plated German silver bridges, polished jewel sinks, hand-finished bevels and mirror-polished screws.
What separates the Fundamentum from most contemporary independent watches is not simply the finishing itself, but the process behind it. Each component begins life as raw material worked by hand on restored antique machinery, requiring extraordinary patience and precision at every stage of production.
Produced in extremely limited annual numbers of approximately five pieces per year, the Fundamentum Silver Blue ALD Dial represents one of the purest expressions of modern traditional watchmaking available today.
