Abyss Chronograph

The Cédric Johner Abyss Chronograph Ref. 5371/4 is a rare example of independent Swiss watchmaking from the early 2000s, produced in a highly exclusive series of just 20 pieces. This example is numbered 2/20 and showcases the artisanal approach for which Geneva-based watchmaker Cédric Johner is renowned.

Its distinctive tonneau-shaped case is individually handcrafted from 18-carat pink gold, measuring approximately 39mm wide, 41mm long and 13.5mm thick. A sapphire crystal protects the dial, while the transparent caseback provides a clear view of the manually wound chronograph movement within.

At its heart is a vintage Valjoux 71 manual-winding chronograph calibre, enhanced with traditional hand-finishing and a swan-neck regulator. The dial is equally noteworthy, featuring intricate hand-executed guilloché work produced by Johner at Les Cadraniers de Genève, the specialist dial manufacture he co-founded with F.P. Journe and Harry Winston.

The two-tone dial incorporates radial numerals, subsidiary seconds and a 30-minute chronograph register, complemented by elegant pink-gold feuille-style hands. Completed by its original Cédric Johner leather strap and matching solid-gold deployant clasp, this Abyss represents an increasingly collectible period of independent watchmaking. The watch has been serviced and is presented in full working order.
