Eugène Kim
A pioneering vanguard for the cause of independent watchmaking in South Korea,Eugène Kim is an innovator, engineer, designer, entrepreneur and self-taughtwatchmaker who has studied and refined his craft before founding his atelier in the cityof Pyeongtaek in 2009. Combining a consuming passion for watchmaking with the deepknowledge of the properties of all kinds of metals which he accrued whilst working inthe superconductor industry, his creations boast the first all- South Korean designedand developed in-house movements.Taking his vision to the next level Eugène Kim’s story will unfold in a series of “Chapters”,each of which will centre around collaborations with other independent watchmakers.Chapter One is the remarkable Vertixphere X1, a limited edition which is the result of acollaboration with English-based, French-Algerian watchmaker Tayeb Boussalia, andfeatures another all-new, in-house manual winding movement which includes acompletely vertical balance and escapement assembly displayed beneath a massivesapphire dome.
