After reshaping modern horology with the Royal Oak and Nautilus, Gérald Genta embarked on an independent path defined by creative audacity and technical flair. That spirit reached a cultural flashpoint in 1984 when his cartoon-themed watches, led by Mickey Mouse, caused such controversy that he was excluded from the Geneva Watch Show the same year the AHCI was founded to champion independent watchmakers. This late 1990s Fantasy Retro “Mickey Mouse” distills Genta’s philosophy into a 41 mm stainless-steel case framing a multicolour lacquered dial where Mickey’s gloved arm serves as the minute hand in a mono-retrograde display. Sweeping a 120° arc, the hand instantly flies back to zero at the top of each hour, while a jumping-hour aperture near 5 o’clock provides precise hour indication.

Powered by an automatic calibre based on Gérald Genta’s proprietary mono-retrograde/jumping-hour architecture developed on a high grade mechanical base and celebrated for reliability and crisp complication performance. While the exact calibre for this late 1990s model is not always specified, newer Gérald Genta Arena Retro Mickey Mouse versions use a variant of the BVL 300 movement, built as a module on Bulgari’s Solotempo base, continuing the same mechanical philosophy, a vivid blend of horological ingenuity and playful artistry, the Fantasy Retro “Mickey Mouse” stands as a defining chapter in late-20th-century independent watchmaking proof that technical sophistication and lighthearted design can share the same stage without compromise. Fitted with a black rubber strap secured by a folding clasp, this example is offered by a trusted collector and remains in pristine overall condition, with light strap ageing commensurate with time. It is presented without box or papers; however, The Limited Edition will supply a two-year warranty for assurance.
