Making a spectacular debut on watchmaking’s world stage, the Impulsion watch by Louis Moinet features a tourbillon together with a fully visible chronograph mechanism, creating a fascinating mechanical ballet on its dial side. Released in a limited edition of only 28 pieces, the Louis Moinet Impulsion is presented in a grade 5 titanium and 18ct rose gold casing which has been custom built to house this exciting and complex timepiece.

For the first time in watchmaking, the Louis Moinet Impulsion introduces the arrangement of a fully visible chronograph mechanism together with a tourbillon, thus affirming the company’s affinity for complex horological innovations and their historical legacy with the chronograph timer. Positioned on the lower sector, and housed within an off-centred cage, the flying tourbillon completes one revolution per minute. With just one push, the central chronograph hand springs into action and the whole dial comes to life, as the full exposé of every detail of the timing mechanism joins the animation of the tourbillon, resulting in an outstanding display of horological acumen. An Aventurine mainplate shimmers behind the indications, and with openworked counters and partially skeletonised hour and minutes hands, the view through to the calibre components remains uninterrupted.

The Louis Moinet Impulsion watch resides in a 42.5mm casing custom built for the Impulsion model featuring hollowed sides and lugs, and a sculpted bezel. The heart of the case is manufactured from grade 5 titanium, ensuring it is lightweight yet strong enough to house and protect the in-house calibre, while its outer is finished in 18ct rose gold, framed by a choice of Moinet blue or black for the inner core. Enhancing the three dimensional perspective of the dial layout, it is fitted with a curved sapphire crystal.

In order to incorporate a tourbillon, significant technical updates to the company’s acclaimed Memoris calibre were required, with many of the components requiring a complete redesign. Of particular note, the automatic winding system was replaced with a manual wind ‘volte-face’ system of twin barrels, in which both barrels are engineered to deliver their energy simultaneously in an upside down position, resulting in the efficient delivery of a more than generous 96 hours of power reserve. Beautifully finished with immaculate detailing, within the Louis Moinet Impulsion, the Manufacture LM114 calibre beats at 28’800 vib/hr.
