A stunning debut creation from Swiss independent watchmaker Didier Cavasino, the Inaugural Tourbillon FT60-S is an exquisite expression of contemporary haute horlogerie, which fuses state of the art design and development techniques with time-honoured traditional watchmaking craftsmanship. Based in the Swiss watchmaking heartland of the Vallée de Joux in the Jura mountains, and with a background in engineering and project management, having worked for some of the grandes marques in the industry, Didier Cavasino has leveraged both his experience and connections in recruiting the services of the crème of the independent watchmaking, from movement specialists to case, dial and component manufacturers to bring his vision to life.

Presented in a beautifully proportioned case of stainless steel, measuring 38.7mm across and 10.4mm tall, the Inaugural Tourbillon FT60 features a brushed central band with polished, sculpted lugs and a narrow polished bezel, which combine to give the watch a modern aesthetic while retaining classical balance.

Beneath the sapphire crystal, the dial is an intricate affair comprising a central panel of hand-hammered solid white gold, giving it a pitted finish which has been further accentuated with the lustre of a clear enamel glaze. The chapter ring which surrounds it is sandblasted and its edges black polished, while the hands are beautifully executed with hand bevelling and satin brushed finishing on the arrow-shaped head parts; their shape an integral element in the Cavasino brand identity.

Dominating the overall display, the flying tourbillon rotates in a mesmerising sixty second cycle, occupying an openworked aperture at the 2 o’clock position, which highlights the complexity and intricate finishing of the mechanism, and where another small pointer on the titanium cage indicates the seconds.

A sapphire caseback reveals the immaculate haute horlogerie finishing and striking architectural symmetry of the in-house designed and developed DCR-01 self-winding calibre. Energy is derived from a solid gold micro rotor which maintains the circa 60 hours of power reserve from the movement’s two barrels, whilst the balance oscillates at a brisk 28,800 vib/h (4Hz). The bridges are decorated with vertical Côtes de Genève stripes, complemented with hand-chamfered edges, and mirror-polished screws,

The Inaugural Tourbillon FT60 by Didier Cavasino is presented on a sustainable nubuck strap, which is hand produced and tailored to the exact specifications of the collector.
