Mühle ProMare Chronograph M1-42-04 NB

Encased in a stainless steel case with brushed and polished surfaces, and featuring carbon dial and vivid orange detail, the new ProMare Chronograph from Mühle is certainly an eyecatching men’s watch with a distinctly sporty personality, and boasting German build quality and watchmaking knowhow to create an ideal watch for the active lifestyle.

For many years the Mühle watch manufactory, from their workshops in Germany’s legendary watchmaking heartland, the town of Glashütte, have been suppliers of specialist hard wearing instrument watches, designed by commission for the various departments of the German military and naval forces, and so when it comes to quality and reliability for everyday wear the new ProMare Chronograph has a lot of experience to call on to create this fabulous watch.

The round stainless steel case measures 44mm x 15.4mm, which gives it considerable presence on the wrist, and its flashes of orange accentuate its all-weather, sports led credentials. With most of the case brushed to a satin finish, contrast comes from the crown and chrono pushers, and the polished bezel which features a black ceramic ring.

Edged with a thin ring of orange, the near black dial is coated with a carbon paint to give a grainy surface and a subtle cloudy effect. Applied steel hour markers, like the straight-edged hours and minutes hands are filled with Super LumiNova so legibility in low light conditions is crisp and clear. The date window at the 6 and the two recessed subdials at the 3 and 9 are rimmed with raised steel collars, with the small seconds at the 9, and the orange pointer on the opposing 30-minute chrono counter matching the orange tip of the chrono seconds hand.

To the rear a sapphire exhibition window reveals the MU 9048 automatic self winding movement. Using the ever faithful Valjoux 7750 as its base caliber, Mühle have disassembled it so the surfaces can be enhanced with perlage and ribbed finishing, while modifying it with three-quarter plate, rotor and woodpecker neck regulation, all of which are manufactured in-house.
