A wonderful and off-beat piece of contemporary independent watchmaking, with head-turning futuristic styling and innovative horological architecture, the SpaceOne WorldTimer takes us further into the universe of this dynamic young watch company, with its novel approach to design and technical sophistication quickly becoming signatures of the SpaceOne marque.

Like something straight off the set of a science fiction space adventure movie, the unconventional spaceship-like styling of the SpaceOne Worldtimer’s Grade 5 titanium case is the work of upcoming designer Olivier Gamiete, who, along with French watchmaking prodigy Théo Auffret have combined forces to create some of the most extroverted, flamboyant – and fun - wristwatches in recent times.

Dispensing with the traditional standards of two or three hands on a flat dial, SpaceOne instead pushes beyond the parameters of watch design and display, making use of the case form to play with the layout of the hours, minutes and seconds.

The Wordtimer does this via three separate windows in the sleek, silvery-grey titanium case, and features discs for the seconds and minutes, adjacent to the crown on the right, where their numerals align with a small white arrow for reference. Below, another smaller disc displays the home hours beneath a dome of sapphire crystal, while the largest of the three displays is the world time indications, which features a twenty-four hour disc, around which an adjustable ring has the names of prominent cities around the world, and which can be set to display the local time via the crown.

Measuring a hefty 52.7mm across and 41.9mm in length (from lugs to lugs), the Worldtimer certainly has an imposing presence on the wrist, yet its noticeably light weight, curvaceous, contoured surfaces and sapphire domes allow for a very comfortable wearing experience.

Inside, a self-winding Soprod P024 movement ensures Swiss reliability and quality, and modified with an in-house module by Théo Auffret to facilitate the eccentric time displays, it beats at a brisk 28,800 vib/h (4Hz) and boasts a power reserve of some 38 hours.

Presented on a black, high-tech fabric strap with pin buckle, the SpaceOne Worldtimer is a piece which is guaranteed to be a conversation starter in any room, and even more than that, a watch which represents exceptional value for money, being pitched at the most accessible end of the price spectrum. It is little wonder these collections sell out so quickly, and are highly sought after by newcomer and connoisseur alike.
