Audemars Piguet – 1017 ALYX 9SM

Arguably one of the most familiar watches in the luxury market sector, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak is an undisputed design classic. Refined yet assuringly solid, this exceptional all-gold example has been developed in partnership with fashion designer Matthew Williams and is presented in a limited release of only 194 pieces.

A model that requires no introduction, the horologic credentials of the Royal Oak are impeccable, and this stunning new limited edition piece retains the instantly recognisable profile and signature features of the collection, such as the exposed hexagonal screws and the beautifully executed integrated bracelet. Foremost, the visual highlight of the piece is the remarkable effect of the vertical satin finish achieved onto its 18ct yellow gold case, dial and bracelet and the contrasting polished edges that accentuate its octagonal bezel.

Exhibiting purity of design, the dial is bereft of numerals bringing the vertical finish of the gold dial to the fore, and the minimalist styling continues with placement of the logos at the 12 and the 6 o’clock which declare the provenance of this exclusive edition. The dial is finished with yellow gold Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating.

Manufactured from 18ct yellow gold, the case is sized at 37mm diameter, with a height of 9.1mm. On turning over, a sapphire caseback showcases the automatic Audemars Piguet Calibre 5909, which displays exquisite Côtes de Genève decoration. Beating at a rate of 28’800 vib/h, the movement has a power reserve of  60 hours. Notably, the 22ct yellow gold rotor which has been specially developed for this limited edition series is engraved with both the 1017 ALYX 9SM branding and also with the winding force and rotor weight, evoking similar detailing to the buckles styled by the designer.

Released in a limited edition of only 194 pieces, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Self-winding 1017 ALYX 9SM 37mm watch wears on an 18ct yellow gold integrated bracelet, secured with an AP folding clasp.
