ORBITA LUNAE

SOLD OUT
QTY :

The ANDERSEN Genève Orbita Lunae is an exceptional horological creation that pays homage to the origins of monthly time measurement, based on one complete orbit of the moon around the Earth. Crafted in a 37.5mm white gold case with sapphire crystal and exhibition case back, this model is powered by a Calibre 1147-2 automatic movement with 17 jewels and delivers a rich combination of complications including hours, minutes, seconds, date, and moonphase. The defining feature of the Orbita Lunae is its unique lunar display, achieved through an ingenious yet mechanically simple system. The dial is crafted from finely engine-turned 22-carat blue gold, with two concentric rotating discs. The upper disc is engraved with a 31-day date scale and features an aperture through which a beautifully detailed yellow gold moon gradually appears. As the discs rotate at different speeds, the display beneath the 12 o'clock position reveals the current phase of the moon in real time, allowing the wearer to intuitively track lunar progression throughout the month. The outer flange features engraved hour and minute markers, with the Andersen Genève signature seamlessly integrated into the design.

Setting the time and moonphase is done via the crown, ideally timed so that the date and moon change at midnight. Rapid corrections to the calendar can be made at the end of months with fewer than 31 days. This particular piece is offered in very good condition, fitted with a leather strap and white gold signed buckle. While it no longer includes the original Scatola del Tempo presentation box, it is accompanied by certification from Andersen Genève and stands as a rare example of independent Swiss craftsmanship. Only 31 pieces of the Orbita Lunae were ever made.
