Distinctive, unconventional and unmistakably bold, the Graham Swordfish Black represents one of the Swiss watchmaker’s most recognisable chronograph designs.
Distinctive, unconventional and unmistakably bold, the Graham Swordfish Black represents one of the Swiss watchmaker's most recognisable chronograph designs. Originally conceived following a design competition organised by Graham in 2001, the Swordfish quickly established its identity through an unusual dial architecture, oversized magnifying counters and a commanding presence on the wrist. Reference 2SXAS.B06A continues this distinctive design philosophy, combining contemporary mechanical engineering with an unmistakable sporting character.
Crafted from stainless steel, the substantial 46mm case features a satin‑brushed bezel, polished detailing and chronograph pushers decorated with a Clous de Paris pattern for improved grip. A steel crown incorporating a double‑seal construction contributes to the watch's 100‑metre water resistance, ensuring practical protection for everyday wear.
Perhaps the most recognisable feature of the Swordfish is its unusual sapphire‑crystal construction. Two prominent magnifying portholes sit directly above the chronograph counters at 3 and 9 o'clock, providing approximately 20% magnification. This distinctive arrangement enhances readability while creating the collection's characteristic appearance. Anti‑reflective treatment on the underside of the crystal further improves visibility.
Beneath the crystal, a black sunbrushed dial provides a dramatic backdrop for beige Super‑LumiNova Arabic numerals, introducing a subtle vintage‑inspired aesthetic. Rhodium‑plated hour and minute hands feature matching beige luminescent material, ensuring excellent legibility in reduced lighting conditions. A contrasting red central chronograph seconds hand adds a sporting touch, complemented by red‑varnished rhodium hands within the chronograph counters.
Powering the Swordfish Black is Graham's G1710 automatic chronograph calibre, featuring an unconventional coaxial counter arrangement. Operating at 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz), the 34‑jewel movement delivers approximately 48 hours of power reserve. Its chronograph functions include central seconds and a 30‑minute counter, while the coaxial display incorporates a 12‑hour totaliser alongside the running seconds indication. Mechanical finishing includes circular‑grained plates, blued screws and Côtes de Genève decoration across the bridges. An Incabloc shock‑protection system enhances the movement's resistance to everyday impacts, while a sapphire exhibition caseback offers a clear view of its construction and decorative finishing.
Completing the watch is a black calf leather strap with contrasting red and off‑white stitching, secured by a stainless‑steel pin buckle. An additional black rubber strap featuring Graham's distinctive mesh pattern is also supplied, offering a more contemporary sporting alternative.
Combining an unmistakable visual identity with traditional Swiss chronograph engineering, the Graham Swordfish Black offers a distinctive interpretation of the modern mechanical sports watch. Its sculptural case, magnified chronograph counters and carefully considered finishing create a timepiece that remains instantly recognisable within the world of independent Swiss watchmaking.
